If you were to die now, at this moment, what would you think of as the best thing you've ever done in your life?

I think personal time would be my number one. I don't think I realized my individuality until after my brother moved out for college. Giving myself time and soul searching every now and then are probably the best moments in life. They're moments where you indulge on the essential things that make life great and the things that shape me. I think being able to step back and reflect on how to exist year by year  allows oneself to recognize the expansiveness of genuine creativity and personality that lies dormant within. Having time to catch up with yourself is like reuniting with your old best friend after so many years. Just, with the way life goes .. It's all about the external factors like time, others, and what not. I could say the best moments are with friends and family, but I don't believe that we rely on them for change. A bit of a push here and there but as long as you don't find yourself to be the greatest feature in the big scheme of things .. Self-time isn't a bad thing.

“Take care, don't fight, and remember: if you do not choose to lead, you will forever be led by others. Find what scares you, and do it. And you can make a difference, if you choose to do so.”
-J. Michael Straczynski

I found this quote to be amazing. I heard it at my bro's graduation last year and it means a lot to me. I figure being an African American male in the science field is something scary to not only myself but the majority of non-african americans that inhabit that field. Knowing full well in high school that science and math were not my strongest of subjects, I continue to live on hope that my dream will be grasped, and if not .. It was never quit on and the only it wasn't was because I died. I like the first part of the quote that states, "If you choose not to lead you'll be lead by others". It's true, and proves that education will never be enough. For example, I work in a pharmacy. If corporate wants to bring in a licensed pharmacy student and I'm just a pharmacy technician .. Who would get the upper hand? There aren't many leaders in the workplace who got there without some progressive means of education. If you believe in staying stagnant in one happy complacent dwelling .. then sure, something better always and will come along. It WILL bite you in the ass. With funeral service, education in mortuary science or funeral service education is crucial to working in a funeral home. Although there aren't many degrees in vocational Uprograms (barbering, automotive, etc ...) that exceed licensure and an associates degree, I struggle to find where something new and better can be found. For most businesses are privately owned/family run and it's hard to figure out what other types of leadership besides a degree can make you an asset versus a person just to keep around because they know what they're doing.

Lastly, the quote mentions that you can make a difference if you choose to. It's true, life requires all kinds of innovation. What does life do when it flat-lines on a life support monitor? It ends. Life requires upkeep and upgrades of all kinds to keep things moving. Using your passion to assist society helps society. For a person who's having trouble choosing paths in life, your passion can ignite or re-ignite the deepest of their dreams that may have once been down-played. Perhaps scare them into doing what they're afraid of?

I've felt blessed in the years since high school that I've gotten to experience three different fields of work. I know what industrial, retail, and science careers are. I understand what it takes and not to pre-judge everything before trying. I've learned that it takes a lot of failing to understand that something isn't right for you. I understand that it takes work outside the workplace and my studies to produce a product to society that is innovative, tangible, and greatly polished. Noone will ever touch perfection in this life, however the means to better yourself is always at your finger tips. Do what you need to be better than the person that taught you, and use the gift of knowledge as a gift to someone who may have been like you.

Hope you enjoy this quote and come to a realiization that all you ever needed to succeed  is/was always there. Take the time to be resourceful and welcome failure!
